Allergic VS Irritant contact dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis
Presentation of atopic dermatitis:
acute: itchy, red skin with papules (small, firm elevated lesions) or vesicles ( fluid- or air- filled sacs) with secretions
subacute: often has papules that have been scratched and scaly plaques
Chronic: thickened plaques, prominent markings on the skin
location
infants and children: initially erythema on their cheeks progressing to the face, neck, forehead, and extremities
Adults: less severe; plaques (red, scaly, weeping or thick and leathery) in the flexural areas of the elbow and knees, neck, forehead, eyes and hands
